Cannot believe it Mabel is sat up on the nest just as she did when incubating her eggs. She seems so much more alert that the last two days.Elaine

What a beautiful term of Phrase Jill Queen of the Loch i like that very much. Its nice to know her final resting place will be at the foot of the Tree with a memorial quite fitting i think, i am touched. Karen Stoke

I have just looked in on the Osprey Mabel seems to have gained a little strength, as she was sat upright at one stage and stretching her wings out to cover the chicks it seems?. Karen Stoke

2.00 p.m. and Mabel is still hanging on - I just watched a very touching family scene with Mac feeding his chicks and Mabel lying there beside them - she managed to lift her head and look at them, although her eyes are closed I am sure she can sense that he is there with food, looking after their babies and she can die happy in that knowlege. They will remove her body as soon as they are sure she has gone, and they hope to bury her at the foot of "her tree" with a memorial to her memory. Yes that photo posted is just beautiful - I have been taking pics off the screen with my camera but they are nowhere near as good! Lets hope she doesn't have to suffer much longer today - rest in peace sweet beautiful bird, the true Queen of the Loch...Jull

I was up till 4 ish this morning i looked in on the Ranga cam such beautiful colours were across the sky i am sure there was some kind of an aura going on. I felt i had to sit with Mabel some last night why i dont know just to say goodbye in my own way i suppose. Special Lady slip away as quick as you can its breaking our hearts watching you. It was strange watching Mabel deteriorate before my eyes and watching T-boy feeding their bairns a bitter sweet moment indeed but i had some comfort, from watching this as she was able to see hes doing his very best bless him. I think Peter and the staff have been superb in their blogs to keep us all informed as to whats happening, and what will happen, thank you so very much, and my heart breaks for you all it really does Karen Stoke

It is so sad to see the female osprey hanging in there by a thread, I can't bear to watch it as you feel so helpless, it's terrible I wish there was something I could do, I looked in last night and her breathing seemed to be very laboured, It's dreadful to watch. Bec

Well.our lady is still with us, but, I wish God would say, " Come on Lady we are ready for you now ". She can't suffer for much longer and doesn't deserve to. May I say to everyone at LOLs, thank you for your dedication to her, she has had some marvelous people watching over her. Elsie

I have just looked in at the webcam for the first time today and what a shock I got. Poor Bird. At least she is where she is happiest. It is upsetting to watch for too long at a time. Lets hope the male steps up to the mark and helps the little ones grow good. Sandra Darlington.

Eldest owlet is almost as wide as he/she's tall lol, a real roly poly, nice to have some light relief. I can't bear to watch the ospreys any longer, far too painful and want to remember her as she was.

Will catch up on other cams some time tonight.

How can we bear to watch Mabel's long suffering? Yes, I know it's nature and those at the LOTL cannot intervene, but it has been so many hours now that our beloved bird cannot leave this earth. Now I know what a 'heavy heart' feels like, so sad do I feel. I am so grateful that I had decided to make that long trip to go and actually see the ospreys myself at LOTL when all was still well. Now we must all think positively and hope and pray that our young dad will set to and rear those chicks to adulthood. A daunting task no doubt, but let's keep our fingers crossed.
How lovely to be able to watch the owlets, and this evening the badgers of course. I missed the fledging of the swallows; hope all will go well for them. Rosemary (Plymouth)

I have just read your posts i looked in this morning before i went out and thought there was something wrong with our lady but didnt have the courage to go to lols to see.
it is so sad but at least we will know the end of her, that it was in her own little kingdom. If she had left in august and not come back next year we would have wondered
what had happened to her and where. Poor Peter and all the people at lols how must they be feeling. Im pleased to see that mac has fed the chicks we will have to see if he can cope hope so she is such a grand old lady i too am having a little weep mary llandudno
will have to see if he can cope

Sue, I am so with you there, it's heartbreaking.
Janice, I too have been watching the owlets for some light relief and agree they are so funny to watch. One of hem did the same thing last night. I laughed out loud to see him/her sprawled forward with little legs in the air.

It may be she's had a stroke, someone on the blog asked if this was possible and they said yes. Any other animal would be euthanised, I know she's a wild bird but to see her suffering like this is unbearable. My husband came in and found me in tears earlier and told me not to watch. I check her every hour or so. This is my third year watching Mabel and, Karen the (unjustified)thought also crossed my mind that she couldn't go on without Eric. I hope her suffering doesn't go on much longer. Sue, Middlesex
