Julia,I think I have only seen the Kingfisher once in all the years I have been watching.I have seen the one on the village stream more times just by luck driving over the bridge as he or she has been flying along.I am afraid it is sheer luck, for years I had never even seen one! I agree the kingfisher is a stunning bird and do remember seeing it many times last year, often Mr Farmer would do close ups to of it on the branch.

Did post yesterday, but guess it got lost in the machine. The hobby nest is back sadly it did have one new chick, but it looks like the nest has been raided and chicks gone. One unhatched egg still there, but think nest has been abandoned.

Well back to the tennis Nadal is winning.

Happy 4th July to all the americans on here have a great day.

I agree with Karen that the Kingfisher is a beautiful bird. I think in all the years I've been looking into Denbury webcams I've seen it once! And I didn't see it at all on five visits to the Farm itself!! I must say it's always frustrating when I've not seen it to see others on the forum commenting about seeing it - my timing must be rubbish!!!!!
Those Osprey are looking great, aren't they?

Right unless i scroll back and i haven`t the time to be honest, i am not sure weather i have seen the Kingfisher this year or not as time flies. But i hasten to add, i have seen it many times on Denbury in past years. I have also had the great privilege to watch it dive for a fish bring it back to the branch slap the fish on the branch as to kill its catch then fly off to feed it young i presume. Ladies it is worth staking out the cams it really is, and if Mr Farmer is about and zooms in Oh it will bring a tear of joy that i promise you. It is one of the most beautiful looking birds i have ever seen. Karen Stoke

Good evening Everyone,
Have just seen (on the badger cam, what looks like another swallow on a nest at Denbury Farm. I know they can have more than one brood. Perhaps someone can tell me if this is the case, or quite a different bird! Love the not-so-little owls, still all cuddled up together, and yes, of course, I have popped in on 'our Ospreys' and seen that all is well, thank the Good Lord. I have never seen the kingfisher, so must concentrate on that webcam more. Rosemary (Plymouth)

Evening Everyone.

I haven't seen the Kingfisher yet Sue, was having a look earlier on in the hope of being able to but did see the geese swim by, goslings are so big now.

Did anyone else see the mole in the nestbox other night? Took me ages to figure out what it was, the owls were trying to rip it up to no avail, didn't see what happened to it eventually. I emailed the BOT about it to see if this was common and in response to them asing if anyone had seen one and heres the response I had.

"Many thanks for the email confirming the presence of a mole in the nestbox recently. Moles
are a fairly rare addition to any food cache as generally they're too big to be swallowed whole
but it's certainly not unheard of. Whether they ever actually get totally consumed is probably a
matter of conjecture.
Thanks once again
Matt."

Ospreys are now as nearly as big as the adults, and busy flapping away at times I see, wonn't be long till they fledge I guess.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Has anyone seen that a huge sperm whale was seen off Brixham on Monday, wish I could have witnessed that, what a coup!
Hoping this weather holds out until our family weding on Thursday - Rosemary - if your anywhere near the Register Office at 2.15 - I'll be the one in the pale blue with a silly pile of feathers on my head!!!

11:22 Thu 01 Jul 10
We will do eventually Elaine, and will be great to put a face to a name.

Was watching the ospreys earlier tonight, chicks are huge, saying another 10 days or so before fledging, I to saw the poem other night on the blog, bought tears to my eyes was so well written and summed up all the events perfectly.

Owls are getting bigger by the day, hard to tell the elder 2 apart as hatched so close together. Thanks Mr Farmer for allowing that link and thanks to Jeff for making that cartoon strip of the owls, not sure if you read this forum.

Finally got some much needed rain here, cooled things down a lot.

Night everyone.
