Those Hummingbird Hawkmoths are beautiful. I have only seen them in Greece. I knew they were around in the UK but have never seen them here. Lucky you Jan. I am very envious.

I haven't been on my computer for a few days, so just checked the barn owls, my have they grown, one just attacked the camera and now there seems to be some wires showing, I hope this is ok!
I've just been watching the most beautiful creature in my garden, a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, it was flitting from flower to flower like a hummingbird would, obviously thats why its named that. Then it rained so it flew off. I tried to photograph it but as usual the picture didn't come out. Not having much luck with camera at the moment, but I will try try again :)

Some kids came to show me their new bird. Inside a budgie cage, sitting on a swing, they had a wild baby bird they had found on the ground in the park. It was really friendly and was young enough not to have learned otherwise. I explained you can't keep wild birds and that often they can be on the ground for some time with the parents looking after them, and did they know where in the park they found it so we could put it back where the parents could find it. They didn't so there was no point in trying to take it back since it is a large park. Being night time, only emergency services were available and this isn't treated as an emergency. I went to a wildlife web site here and it said I could feed it wet cat food using tweezers to hold the food and not to over feed it. Since Rosie has some wet food we started to feed it. It had been very noisy and after feeding it went quiet. I fed it about 3 times that night and in the morning it was still alive so I fed it again, and then put it in a box and took it to our Wildlife Offices. They said it was a Red Eyed Vireo which as a fledgling looks like a bit like a Sparrow and sings like a Robin. They weren't sure they could look after it since they weren't set up to feed young birds. I left it in their good hands and can only hope that they didn't humanely euthanize it. A lesson for people to leave young birds where they find them if they do not appear to be hurt. Rosie's Mum in Toronto

Thank you for that Mr Farmer. Bet Vicky got some good photos, the first one seemed very eager to get out and into the water, don't think the others seemed quite so sure. Its a pity that they have gone to the far end of the lake and are now black blobs! They do look at home now on the lake, hope the remaining one takes to them.
I actually thought I would have missed it got the cam on and sat in the chair nearset the screen at 2.15, what do you know I fell asleep and woke up at 4.05pm. So glad they didn't arrive earlier!lol Elaine

WOW that was brilliant!! I stayed on Cam1 and sure enough that was the right one! Watched as the three new swans were released - and Vicky (and mum?) were there taking photos as they swam off onto the lake! They immediately swam up to the far end where the other black swan was and I then lost sight of them off camera shot but they all seemed to be together - what a wonderful sight! Thank you Mr. Farmer that has made my day! ...Jill
