Morning all - yes Elaine I saw the deer on the valley cam late last night too - first a shot of just its head as it peeped out from the long grass, then it got up and ran right to left of the screen - great to see its eye shining brightly. Saw a few badgers out too and that cheeky fox trying to nick a butty fron under the badgers noses!...Jill

Good morning all! Hope the weather is kind to you all today, it is cloudy here at the moment.
Switched onto cam 2 last night to see a deer running from left to right across the screen as we see it, did catch Mr Farmer trying to find it by panning round the valley. I wonder if any of you saw the badger on Friday night chasing the fox away from the food? It clearly didn't want to share it, I did think that it looked like a cub. There was another badger out eating while this was going on. Yes it just carried on eating making sure it got its fill first. Will go for a look round the cams now before I start and get the veg done for lunch. Elaine

What a lovely new gallery for the photos, and I am sure a lot of you will be showing us your shots. I don't really get anywhere now to take photos, but will enjoy everyone elses. The owlets are now starting to look like Barn Owls, my favourite in fact. Yes Mary everything did go well with my op, and when I wake up now everything is so bright, just wonderful to see colours properly again. Vicky, loved your photos as usual. Have a good weekend all. Morning, all bloggers from a fairly warm Ilminster. Re the black swans. My husband used to look after black swans as part of his job a few years ago before he retired. He was always under the impression their wings had to be clipped to prevent flying off because they were not native to this country (being Australian.)Has this ruling been changed?

There is a deer at the far end of the valley left hand side.Thankyou for improving the quality of the picture on this camera,it is much appreciated.Lindsay

Thanks for a great diary Vicky and for the new photo page - your picturs are beautiful - as Karen says you have a real talent and a gift for taking photos - and from what I saw on swan release day last week a pretty good camera with a long lens too! Well done! they are a credit to you. The new look gallery page is as Karen says, very posh looking! Thank you Mr. Farmer - I'm sure everyone will make good use of it.

Also Jan (Herts) thats a great photo of the Magpie moth! Yes its nothing like the Ermine but all I had to go on was your description of white with black spots! Now I will have to send in a couple of my moths to put with yours!

Its a shame the new black swans flew off - I hope they find somewhere safe to settle -maybe they will come back to Denbury when they've had a look around elsewhere. We can hope! But it will be nice if Mr. Farmer can get another one as company for the remaining swan.....Jill

Lovely to see Diary and Gallery - thanks to all concerned. I must remember to take my camera out more often. I have been trying to get a picture of a Little Owl. It sits in a hole in a dead tree on a farm drive that I use. Every time I have the camera with me, its not there but when I dont have the camera - there it is! If I slow down in the car to look it leans back into the hole and when I slowly drive away it leans forward to peer round the edge of the hole - looks so comical with its little eyebrows!
Shame about the swans- hope Mr. Farmer has better luck this time.Gal Pam. Norfolk.

Yes Wendy its info@denburyfarm.co.uk and just put the subject as Photos. It seems the gallery hasn't been updated for a while so Mr. Farmer must be very busy - but I'm sure he will get it going again as soon as he has time. We look forward to seeing your pics!

Jan (Herts) I'm glad you checked on the Moths UK site and discovered your moth was a Magpie! Yes they are very pretty too - what threw me was you said it had black spots - and the Magpie has more yellow on it - and usually at rest it holds its wings out flat, whereas the Ermine folds them into a point along its back. I can tell you will take more notice of moths now and ID them when you find them!! Comma butterflies are very pretty too - I see them a lot on the blackberry and bramble bushes on the common.
Karen (Stoke) thank you for your concern about my back - its been a bit better today but still have sharp twinges so I think it was more a trapped nerve as well as a pulled muscle - I guess it will take its time to heal. Oh well off to bed now - nite all - hope to see the black swans tomorrow ....Jill

Karen Florida I do so envy you with all the butterflies you have in your garden and butterfly house. We only get the usual peacock painted lady and red admiral species here and not too many of these. I cant help wondering where the name butterfly came from. I also have to say that I havnt seen any ladybirds this year, maybe it is something to do with the very cold winter we had. I would love to see the four black swans swimming together but no luck yet. Must go and check all the cams, I did have a problem earlier with two of the Denbury cams I just couldt get them at all. Hi Jill, thanks for that, but its not a White Ermine, I checked on Moth uk website and found it, its called 'The Magpie' also a common moth, not as grand as the one you guessed though. I didn't realise moths could be that pretty, I normally run a mile from them, scared of them as a child and never grew out of the fear I'm afraid.
I saw a 'comma' butterfly this afternoon, very pretty. We have Harlequin Ladybird's, we saw some black ones with orange spots, they come in a large range of colours, I've not seen any of our native ones. We've been plagued by thunderflies the last couple of days, the air is thick with them. Very icthy.
