Morning, all. Blackberries are just making their presence known here in south Somerset, there are a few ripe ones but we normally pick from the middle to end August onwards and judging by the bushes we should have a good crop this year. We take tubs when we walk our dog and spend many happy hours getting stung and taking thorns out of fingers, but oh,the crumbles and ice-cream.We usually freeze them and have one for Christmas. When the children were younger (many yaers ago) they would take their stilts and reach the berries too high for me. They didn't really like blackberrying as they had other things to do,being children. Just why are the best and biggest berries out of reach? Tina

Lindsay I meant to say 17 'different' moths is a good haul - but 54 in total is great! Did you manage to ID them all? I look forward to seeing your pics on the gallery.
Karen I was watching the deer on Cam1 too as it was on the valley tonight - so sweet with the little one's eyes shining brightly. Looks like its pouring down there now! I laughed at your story of being pulled through the brambles by your dog! We did the same thing as kids, we would each take jam jars and plastic bags and dad had a hooked walking stick as usually the best blackberries were highest up. Our fingers and mouths were stained deep purple as yours were but ohh the taste is exquisite straight from the bush! I think brambles are the same as blackberries although I heard Valentine Warner on TV the other day saying there were loads of different varieties - and I agree the prices in the supermarkets are so expensive when you can get them for free for a little effort!
Val Perth I hope your computer behaves itself now - we don't want the forum turning blue! lol ... Nite all...Jill(E)

That was Fabulous viewing the deer with her fawn it was definitely a baby with her as i could see by the size difference, they were grooming each other so they must feel safe in the Valley hope they come back rutting season i love watching them. As they were grooming each other i had goosebumps it was beautiful i wished a stag would have shown up it would have been a superb sight then.
Val Perth, i should imagine thats what i am referring to brambles not heard them called that before, but we have had a poor crop this year so sad as i love picking them i go back to my childhood my mum used to take us miles and miles as kids picking them. No one but no one madkes a better blackberry pie than my mum oh lord i can taste it now with hot custard if i close me eyes. Every time i go, i remember my Mum, asking me to hold the dog, we had at the time Candy a German Shepherd my Mum had to climb over a style to get to the other side of the brambles well Candy dragged me through the lot to get to her i was ripped to shreds as i didn't dare let go of the lead as she was one for bolting lol. Oh i was in a mess cut to shreds i was my siblings were laughing my mum was trying to comfort me Poor Mum there were five of us and the dog but i always remember that day so vividly i smile when i go Brambling! i like that word Val i shall now use it from now on thank you lol. The price of them in the shops are disgusting. And rhubarb it disgusts me how they dare mark um up so expensive the pigs lol. But when we got home you should have seen the corners of our mouths all purple lol. Karen Stoke

Karen can you tell me if what you call Blackberries are what we call Brambles. I am having great problems with my computer at present and cant get the Denbury Cams, I am sure you must have seen the blue smoke rising from Perth as I say a few, no, many choice words to my computer. I am hoping to have the problem taken care of tomorrow if not there will be more blue smoke. Val Perth

The lake looks lovely and peaceful tonight as the sun is setting, not long now until the days start to draw in, I've already noticed that it is getting darker a little earlier, Autumn is not far off now, I quite like that time of year, especially as the trees change into their wonderful vibrant oranges and reds and you get those misty dewey mornings. I went Blackberrying, last evening with Jordan and the dogs we just got back before it went dark lol, well how disappointing! it was, we got some but not many they aren't nearly ready some of them its a poor year, this year for them, i have enough to make a crumble. An elderly gent shouted to us there arnt many this year are there, i said i know i cant believe it really, he said well lets hope its a good sign and we have a longer summer this year. I doubt it though as many have mentioned the trees colours changing. I have a tree outside Arthur's house and its shedding very badly already i think its a sycamore tree i sweep Arthur's drive every other day to keep it tidy i have my own to do as well. I just wished this Sun would come out but i recon its the affects of the Volcano its so dull here and spitting with rain i am sick of it i really am now i need some sun. I havent been able to get the cams today on Denbury, i will try again after i have sent this post. Karen Stoke

Thanks Mary Llandudno. No, I didn't manage to catch the pigeon. Whenever I went to get it it ran under the balcony divider to next door. However, I continued to feed and water it and on Saturday, when I went to try again, it flew off. So it had been there for five days and whatever ailed it,seemed to get well again. On Thursday, when I first started to feed it, I thought it was a gonner as it spent most of its time with its head tucked into the back of its neck asleep with its feathers fluffed up as they do when they are cold. I suppose it was also in difficulty with no food or water. We are having weird weather and yesterday was rainy and cold and today looks much the same. I notice that some of our trees are changing colour early this year. Have uploaded shots from camera and will get them ready for posting for those who enjoy looking at photos. Rosie's Mum in Toronto

How loveley the valley looks this morning! The sun is shining on it and it looks so peaceful, I think I will spend a while looking at it!
Wendy, west yorks thanks for your reply, I just wondered if you collected them and used them straight away or whether you did freeze them and used them during the winter months for feeding. The birds love the windfall apples from my tree, mainly blackbirds! They are eating what have fallen already. I do leave them on the ground for them. The starlings are the ones that eat them whilst they are still on the tree. When collecting them in the autumn I usually have a bucketful that have been eaten. Hope everyone has a good day! Elaine

Which is the valley cam? Is that Denbury Cam 1 or the Hatchery Cam? Some days (or nights) I feel stupid. I also saw the thin bodied fox tonight. Rosie's Mum

I agree Lindsay its nice to have the forum back as it was and to know Mr. Farmer won't allow any funny business! Well 17 moths is not a bad haul for this time of year - there are still some late breeding moths about so I am looking forward to some interesting photos! I hope you can ID them all too! lol
Elsie I hope you get your laptop AND a stair lift! That will make you mobile and able to computer wherever you are!...Jill (E)
